Key Asian Marriage Traditions

In Central Asia, a bridal is a key function that reflects the area’s wandering past. Although some norms were outlawed during the 60 to 70 generations of Soviet/russian process, relationship continues to be a substantive affair. This is generally because of the fact that the communities in this region are usually large, and each has its own specific traditions.

In the past, a couple would spend time with their families before arranging their relationship. The marriage was usually held in fall or late summertime, when the weather is cooler and inexpensive food is available. The couple’s relatives may prepare a great supper and her female friends would grant her gifts. In some regions the groom’s community would spend a marriage to the couple’s home, which could include horses, cattle, money, embroidery or clothing.

The prospective man and his male family would then kidnap the woman ( in the old nomadic time, by horse, now, by vehicles). He would finally take her to the home of his relatives or his home. His father and elder relatives would try to persuade the bride to put on a white jacket that signified her acceptance of the marriage, or risk pain and even death. This practise, known as ala kachuu tajik girls for marriage, was outlawed during the Soviet time, but it appears to be making a return.

On the day of the marriage, the girl would be sent with her money caravan to the couple’s home. She did become expected to walk it nude, and on the way she was supposed to be showered with sweets and currencies. She also had to sing farewell melodies before she left her parental house, such as the prominent Kyrgyz music Koshtasi Zhari.
